Xanakin is a rapper that holds a very unique style. A sound that sits between the border of noise rap and trap metal. His audience has grown astoundingly over the last few years. With over 600 thousand spotify listeners, Youtube videos with millions of views… And yet he has a much smaller social media presence then you might expect. We’re going to discuss what makes his sound so popular. And you just might find some of Xanakin’s tactics useful in your own branding.
Let’s start off with the fact that Xanakin only has an Instagram for posting social content. Why doesn’t he need a Facebook page, Twitter, Tiktok, Twitch and Snapchat? Most artists need these platforms to express their brand. Xanakin has a knack with expressing his brand very clearly within the tracks. He doesn’t just get on the mic and rap. He puts on a little show for every song. A comedy show if we’re being honest. Most of his songs contain dialogue, jokes and Spongebob references. Xanakin is known for interrupting the beginning, middle and end of his songs with outbursts made to represent his thoughts. While other artists would use such things in a very light moderation, Xanakin chooses to take it front and center.
My personal favorite tracks from him are “MACHO!” (his most viewed song on Youtube) “SHIMMY” “ROYAL PAIN 2” and “DESPACITO”
These four tracks are a great place to start on the journey into Xanakin’s sound.
It’s not enough to just say you don’t give a fuck. Attitudes speak louder than words. And Xanakin is very gifted when it comes to setting the tone for his character’s attitude.
It also appears that he never breaks character. I once contacted a promotional affiliate of his and asked about an interview. He said he wouldn’t recommend it. “I’m saying his response would literally just be one word yells. He won’t speak normally anymore. He tries to stay 100% Xanakin when speaking publicly.”
This tactic seems to work well for some artists if they have enough depth to the music personality they created. We see this in other artists spanning across different genres such as Poppy, GWAR and Ghost. Trap Metal is known for having many artists that mask their face. Although it seems to have lost value with so many Trap Metallers doing it now.
So if there is one important lesson to learn from the infamous XANAKIN SKYWOK… It would be to bring as much depth into your artist character as possible. Play it up big. No matter what kind of vibe or gimmick you are going for.
